UNESCO Hanseatic city with historic medical university
Officially named the Hanseatic City of ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​, this port-city is located close to the Baltic coast in the region of Schleswig-Holstein. The oldest part of the city is an island, connected to the remainder of the city via a series of bridges over the River Trave. The historical center is a UNESCO-protected World Heritage Site.

Founded as Free City of ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​
³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​ has a population of 210,000, 9,500 of which attend one of the city’s three universities. Settlers have lived in the region since the Neolithic, but it was finally granted status as the Free City of ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​ in 1226.

³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​ is a lively student town, the majority of which attend the historic University of ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​, globally famed for its medical faculty. The city is also home to the ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​ Technical University of Applied Sciences and the ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​ Academy of Music. Students enjoy the small but vibrant medieval center, tucked behind the famous Holstentor and Burgtor city gates. Students living in ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​ can enjoy activities as diverse as classical music concerts to days at the sandy Travemünde beach.
As one of Germany’s major ports, the maritime industry continues to be one of the most significant employers in the city. Other important industries include food manufacture, biomedical research, creative tech and in recent times, wind power. Students at the University of ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​ are supported into employment via the university’s ³¢Ã¼²ú±ð³¦°ì​ Job Center.
